Spring Boat Work: Getting Started
While you're waiting for the boat yard temperature to warm up, here's some prep work you can do from inside: dig into our Spring Commissioning archive.
March 18, 2014
Even though I grew up in the northeast, I always think spring should arrive on March 1. And every year I'm disappointed (though this year has established a new low).
By St. Patty's day, I should definitely be outside getting started on all the boat projects I've dreamed up over the winter. Right?
Well this year, once again, I'm wishing for temps that just aren't here yet. So for those of you who, like me, are eager to start your spring boat yard work but don't want to tempt fate by removing the shrink wrap quite yet, here's some reading to do instead.
Editor Doug Logan has been busy behind the scenes updating this special section, which we originally published two springs ago. You'll find all our commissioning tips collected into one easy post: tips on cleaning, polishing, varnishing, and maintenance. (Or as we said last year, "If your commissioning to-do list seems daunting and you don't know where to start, you can start here.")
And if that's not enough reading to carry you into warmer weather, here are a few additional blog posts you might find helpful.
Got a spring project you can't start yet? Tell us about it in the comments, or visit our How To section for more help.
